Accommodations:
2 stateroom layout. Entry is from either the aft deck watertight Dutch door leading into the salon or from either port or starboard watertight door into the pilothouse. The salon and galley are on the main deck with stairs going up to the pilothouse or a few steps down to the staterooms with the guest stateroom and ensuite head forward and the master stateroom and ensuite head aft. The watertight door from the master stateroom leads to the standup walk-around engine room.
In addition to the standard comforts, Evelyn J offers amenities such as granite countertops in both staterooms as well as the galley and heads; all hatches have Ocean Air screens and blackout shades; custom canvas includes exterior window screens and stainless steel bimini top. Additional bookcases and handrails throughout.
Salon The bright and airy salon is designed for comfort and convenience whether for entertaining or family cruising. Generous seating is provided by UltraLeather settees on both port and starboard. | “Evelyn J” is a stand out yacht with amazing versatility. Her Nordhavn pedigree gives her the ability to cross oceans as many of her sister ships have done. But unlike any other 47 ever built “Evelyn J” was outfitted with a hinged main mast assembly, which enabled her to tour America’s Great Loop route – up the east coast, through the Hudson, up into the Great Lakes and down the Mississippi and Tenn Tom river system. “Evelyn J” was built and outfitted for the express purpose of traveling the Great Loop. The retired couple who purchased her were not frugal in the selections and went out of their way to insure that every choice made was not only practical, but the best money could buy. Now having completed the adventure in 2005/2006 it is time for a change of pace and so she comes to market. All systems have been tested in a variety of conditions
“Evelyn J” has been beautifully maintained and is exceptionally outfitted. The owners studied most of the 47s that preceded hull number 22 and made a concentrated effort to take advantage of a multitude of minor improvements and embellishments to maximize their enjoyment of life aboard. After completing the Chapman’s School comprehensive training course they took off for their grand adventure that sails through the waters of the eastern seaboard and America’s heartland and enjoyed a lot of wide eyed stares from locals and passersby who had never seen a rugged ocean trawler up river.
Almost 50 hulls in the Nordhavn 47 series have been built and a few common popular themes keep coming up – almost all of which are included in “Evelyn J”. She is the preferred two-stateroom layout with built in office desk and features granite counter tops on most of the interior horizontal surfaces which truly highlights the exquisite teak interior. All of the best factory installed systems have been selected including ABT TRAC active fin stabilizers, air conditioning and generator, bow and stern thrusters and each system has been thoroughly exercised and ‘broken in’ so she should be trouble free from the moment you take off. Her flybridge has a folding Bimini top that drops below the venturi to assist with the low profile needed to get under the restrictive bridges encountered in the Great Loop.
The production backlog on the Nordhavn 47 now stretches into next summer and then you still have to wait for the commissioning and delivery installations. “Evelyn J” is the latest model 47 that has ever come on the market, she is a third generation build with the L1066T main engine, 24V electrical system and one of the first to order a Lugger wing engine. To replace “Evelyn J” as a new boat the retail comparable pricing would exceed - $1,350,000.00. This offering represents one of those sought after situations for the knowledgeable buyer who has studied the Nordhavn line and is ready to buy an essentially new extremely well outfitted Nordhavn for a price Well below replacement cost of new.

Long range, oceangoing vessels require the fuel efficiency and sea keeping qualities of a full displacement hull. Freighters, true fishing trawlers (not the misnamed, semi-displacement recreational variety) and Nordhavns are authentic, full displacement designs. Thanks to extensive tank testing as well as firsthand experience gained from voyaging hundreds of thousands of miles on our own boats, improvements to the tried and true, full displacement design have been made by P.A.E.’s Jeff Leishman. The effect of these refinements is a level of performance that will satisfy many of those who are considering a semi-displacement boat.
The thinking behind P.A.E.’s “Modified Full Displacement” (MFD®) began with the successful Nordhavn 50 and 57, and it further evolved with our remarkable little ship, the Nordhavn 40. Older full displacement powerboats are limited to their theoretical hull speed of 1.20 S/L times the square root of their waterline. Most of these designs have modest accommodations, as their stern sections are narrow and their super structures are kept low for stability. However, P.A.E. has achieved a more desirable balance of seaworthiness, long range, generous interior space, reasonable speed and high efficiency through its MFD® hull design.
The N47’s full stern section helps to minimize pitching motion while maximizing carrying capacity. An added benefit is that it reduces drag caused by “squatting” at higher speeds, which in turn extends the upper range of its cruising speed. Slippery, stable and efficient, the MFD® hull is proving to he the ideal design for safe, affordable, long range cruising.
In all the years Nordhavns have been crossing oceans and circling the globe, there has never been a structural hull failure, even during a grounding. The N47’s hull is no exception and is heavily built of alternate piles of hand-cut, hand-laid fiberglass mat and woven roving on a ship-like frame. Five longitudinal stringers provide added rigidity, and the forward sections include extra laminates for protection in case of collision. If you have the opportunity of visiting one of Nordhavn’s offices, ask to see a sample of hull laminate. You’ll see why there has never been a failure in all these years.
A close look at the gleaming, flawless gelcoat finish of the hull and superstructure will reveal the quality of the tooling and precise craftsmanship that has become the trademark of our P.A.E. yards. Stomp on the foredeck, and you’ll feel nothing but a solid structure beneath you. Open and close hatches, doors and ports, and you’ll swear you’re on a commercial cruise ship. Nothing flexes or moves unless it’s supposed to. There are no unnecessary seams or joints to invite water intrusion or gelcoat cracking.
In the immediate sense, this uncompromising approach to construction will keep you safe and secure. In the long term, it will keep your investment looking and performing like new. Resale values of Nordhavns are among the highest in the industry. |
A true go anywhere cruiser. Set up and located to do the "Great Circle".
