I frequently am asked about the possibility of shortening 4788's and 490's from their 54' LOA (which they are) to less due to dock restrictions, fitting in boat houses etc. What you aren't going to do is remove the swim platform as the stainless steel triangle supports for it are attached SO well, it would do structural damage to the boat to even think about going this route. That's ONE WELL built swim platform back there that WILL support the ENTIRE weight of the vessel as a fulcrum point if that ever happens (think swim platform getting stuck under a dock on a rising tide!).
So the BOW pulpit is what needs to go. In fact I think you will agree that the boat actually looks much better without the pulpit. Photos here show a boat that had it removed and what it looks like. Who can do it? Pretty much any boat yard can. From all the emails and phone calls I get asking who can do work on these boats OR any other boats- I have to remind them that a good boatyard can do ANYTHING. They can make parts if they can't procure them from the OEMs. Are boat yards expensive? Not good ones that do things properly. In fact if you factor in TIME- they are actually pretty cheap compared in attempting to do things yourself. Most can have you in and out with a job done better than you would had ever imagined while you are still out running around (time is money) looking for parts. PLUS THEY DO IT RIGHT! In the long run it's cheaper to take your boat to a first class boat yard. Remember the old saying "you pay for quality you only cry once".
